Choosing Music for Teens
by Shuie Burdine

It’s important to remember that teens and adults are on totally different emotional levels. They deal with different issues on a day to day basis than adults do, so it would make sense that they will relate differently to music as well.

Adults typically will respond to logic better, but for a majority of teens, it’s all about their emotions. In my opinion, appealing to their emotions in the songs and styles we choose for our youth will have a far greater impact on them then if they memorized a scripture verse put to song. Having said that, it is our responsibility to make sure the songs we choose are Biblically strong, not weak and whimpy.

If teens can memorize verbatim the new Usher, Britney Spears and Yellowcard songs, they certainly can memorize your worship songs. That is if they are attractive to them.

Let’s make every effort to set our youth up to succeed and help paint the best picture of our God who is always there, loves unconditionally and cares for every detail in their day. Let’s get that stuck in their minds during the week.

Praise is an expression of Faith, and Declaration of Victory. Praise should be a part of a believer's lifestyle
